🦈 1. Sharks Are Older Than Dinosaurs!

Sharks have been swimming in our oceans for over 400 million years — that’s way before dinosaurs roamed the Earth! 🦕

They survived mass extinctions and ice ages. That makes sharks some of the oldest living creatures on the planet.

🌊 2. There Are Over 500 Different Types of Sharks

Some sharks are huge. Some are tiny!

• The largest shark is the Whale Shark — it can grow up to 40 feet long (about the size of a school bus!).

• The smallest shark is the Dwarf Lanternshark — only about 8 inches long (smaller than a ruler!).

Not all sharks are scary — many are gentle giants.

👃 3. Sharks Have Super Senses

Sharks can:

• Smell tiny drops of blood in the water

• Sense vibrations from far away

• Detect electrical signals from other animals

They don’t have superpowers — but their senses are pretty close!

🦷 4. Sharks Lose Thousands of Teeth

Sharks constantly lose teeth — and grow new ones!

Some sharks can go through 20,000 teeth in their lifetime.
Imagine if you lost a tooth and a new one grew back the next day!

🐠 5. Most Sharks Don’t Want to Hurt People

Even though movies make sharks look scary, attacks on humans are very rare.

Sharks usually eat:

• Fish

• Squid

• Seals

• Plankton (for whale sharks!)

We are not on their menu.

🌎 6. Sharks Help Keep the Ocean Healthy

Sharks are called apex predators, which means they help control other animal populations.

If sharks disappear:

• Fish populations can explode

• Coral reefs can suffer

• The ocean ecosystem can become unbalanced

Healthy shark populations = healthy oceans 🌊

💡 7. Some Sharks Glow in the Dark!

Certain deep-sea sharks can glow using a process called bioluminescence. It helps them:

• Hide from predators

• Communicate

• Attract prey

The ocean is full of surprises!

Millions of sharks are killed each year because of:

• Overfishing

• Shark finning

• Ocean pollution

• Plastic waste

Organizations like Ocean Blue Project work to protect marine life and reduce plastic pollution that harms sharks and other sea animals.
