Ocean Blue Project’s partnership with GlobalGiving is a brilliant example of how nonprofits can amplify their impact through a trusted global crowdfunding platform. Together, they are mobilizing donors, volunteers, and supporters worldwide to run ocean cleanup projects, youth education programs, and disaster relief efforts. Their collaboration shows how digital philanthropy can directly translate into environmental action.
Who Is GlobalGiving?
GlobalGiving is the world’s first and largest crowdfunding platform for nonprofits. Since 2002, it has raised $1.07 billion from 2 million donors for 42,800 projects in 175 countries. Its mission is to transform aid and philanthropy to accelerate community-led change.
Donors make safe, tax-deductible, satisfaction-guaranteed contributions to vetted nonprofits. Nonprofits take advantage of GlobalGiving’s tools, training, matching campaigns, corporate partnerships, and disaster response funding. Charity Navigator rates it as a Four-Star charity, BBB Wise Giving Alliance accredits it, and Guidestar honors it with Platinum status.

How the Collaboration Began
Ocean Blue Project joined GlobalGiving in 2019 as a vetted nonprofit. Since then, it has raised $53,824, through campaigns and fundraisers, from 200 donors. GlobalGiving’s structured campaigns—Little by Little, July Bonus Day, and Giving Tuesday—have enabled Ocean Blue to maximize donations through matching funds and bonus prizes.
Impact and Achievements
The partnership has achieved remarkable milestones:
- $30,000 raised through GlobalGiving fundraisers authored by Ocean Blue’s team
- 2.15 million pounds of plastic and debris removed in 2024 through the Plastic Disaster Relief Program, supported by GlobalGiving donors
- Blue Schools Program expanded to reach 17,000 students in 750 classrooms across USA, Canada, and the U.K., inspiring future ocean stewards
- Disaster response projects funded by GlobalGiving donors launched to clean millions of pounds of debris in Florida, Hawaii, and Chesapeake Bay.
At present, Ocean Blue and GlobalGiving are rallying support for the “Save the Waves” campaign, which aims to raise $200,000 by the yearend.
Plans and Environmental Goals
Ocean Blue and GlobalGiving will continue their collaboration to…

- Launch 36 weeks of STREAM curriculum
- Expand the Blue Schools Program to 17,000 students worldwide
